It was 1986, I was living in Maui Hawaii and it was my freshman year in highschool.  We lived on a house right on Maalaea Bay with our own private beach and I had the ocean at my disposal daily.  Being that Maalaea boasted some of the fastest and most hollow waves in the world, that is where I spent all of my time outside of school.

I had never felt more free in my life and felt as if time had stood still up until the end of that year.  My parents had told me that It was time to get a job. “A Job, I thought to myself?”, “My job is surfing”.

That was a big wake-up call for me.  Up until that point I felt as if I had all the time in the world.  Money had never been an issue because my parents had always bought everything I ever wanted.  But not anymore.  They cut off the funds per say and I had to work for everything I have wanted ever since.  That was a point in my life where I created some awesome memories that are still as vivid 20 plus years later as the day they were born.

Time

Time is a commodity like everything else.  It’s the most valuable commodity and for most people, it is what we look forward to during certain times of the year.  We work hard to have more of it, but eventually it runs out every 24 hours.  The question I have to ask you is….. Why are you after time?  It’s pretty simple. You want to take that time and create memories.  It’s the memories we are really after but we are stuck in a vicious cycle aren’t we?  I will get back to memories in just a few moments.  In order to have time you need to have money, unless of course your unemployed, then you have all the time in the world.

Money

Money is what you probably wake up to thinking about on a daily basis.  Yea, yea..I know, your not like that and money is not the most important thing to you..Blah..Blah.  If that is the case, let me take it all away from you for about 60 days and see your world come crashing down on you.  You see, it’s not money that is the root of all evil, it’s the love of money.  You have to master it or it will surely master you.

Money is what buys time. That time is used to create memories.  Money is like air in today’s time and place. You can’t really breathe without it. The bible has over 800 scriptures about money (Gold and Silver back in those days.) God knew that we were going to need help with it.

Memories

This hits me like a ton of bricks every time I think about it.  I sometimes imagine what it is going to be like in my last days on this earth.  Who will be by my side?  What will I be thinking about?  And you know what always comes to mind?  Did I create enough memories with my friends and family.  Did I spend enough time with my daughters while they were growing up?

It’s all about memories and like I stated before.  Money is a tool used to buy time.  We take that time and create memories which last a LIFETIME!

So I have to ask you?  Up until this point and until reading this, What have you been after? Time, Money or Memories?

It is all about creating memories.  It’s about capturing moments in life that ring from generation to generation.  Moments that inspire the souls you touch throughout your life.

I often catch myself doing something with my children, whether it be hiking, playing a game of hide and seek or taking a bike ride I think to myself, “Wow, how can I make this moment count.”

As time passes I realize that those precious moments will be the memories that my two girls hold for the rest of their lives.  I want so much for those memories to be so awesome that I go down in the history of their minds as the most awesome dad ever.

I think of how what we do together creates an imprint on their future. I want that future to behold the quaint moments that we have spent together and be filled with the love that we share for one another.

It is all about creating memories.

When we break our actions in life down to it’s simplest form it ends up like this:

We work to create money which gives us time and then we take that time and use it to create memories. So if you really look at this whole cycle closely, we are after the ability to create memories.  So time and money together allow you create the life that you want for you and generations to come.
