Your Internet Business In 2012

What does it look like?  Today I am going to go over 5 ways to reach your goals in 2012.  Let’s face it, if you didn’t reach your goals in 2011, you must do some things differently.  If you do the same thing you did last year, you’ll produce the same results, right?  So let’s switch gears.

Get In the Gym

I see a lot of people my age (39) that look a lot older.  They have beer bellies, wrinkles and quite honestly look like they are 50.  Life can be hard on one’s body if you don’t pay attention to it.  You have to have balance in life.  For those of you who say you don’t have enough time to workout, I think your full of it.  You just need to re-arrange your schedule and make it a priority.

Do you stop for a beer after work at your favorite watering hole?

Do you wake up in the morning with just enough time to shower, get dressed and hit the road?

Try waking up earlier in the morning, like at 4:30 and making it a point to go to the gym.  In fact, get into a group fitness class in the morning, that way your held accountable to be there.  If you simply can’t make it in the morning, forget about the beer stop after work and hit the gym.  You see, it’s all about priorities.

You can’t be a slacker to your body and expect to live a long healthy life.  What is the sense of working yourself half to death and your body checks out at 55 years old because you decided to neglect it.  Get in the gym and your internet business will thank you for it ; ).

Work More On Yourself Then You Do On Your Business

People wonder why years go by and they are no further along today then they were when they first got started in business.  One of the reasons is your reading program sucks or is non-existent.  Leaders are readers and if your idea of reading is picking up the newspaper or a magazine, your not growing, your just filling your mind with mostly useless information.

Pick yourself up some personal development books and start a reading program of a minimum of 30 minutes a day.  EVERY successful person I know is an avid reader and constantly working on their self esteem, attitude and being a blessing to more people that come across their path.  If you think that your going to slide on through to success home plate without reading, your chances are slim.

Your Internet Business Deserves It!

Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan

Having a plan and your goals in place is extremely important.  How do you know where to go if you have not mapped it out and laid the path?  I suggest having a 30-90-180 and 360 day goals set for your internet business.  When setting your goals, be as specific as possible and then stick to the daily tasks you know are necessary to bring those goals to fruition.

Do 30 Day Bursts Of Serious Activity

I have to admit that I can only go hard for so long.  30 days is the most I have gone in an all out battle to produce the most results in the shortest period of time without losing focus or momentum.  Right around 30 days I let off the gas slightly to recharge.

I think most people take a look at the big picture and all the work they have to do and it seems overwhelming.  I understand.

Realize that once you create momentum and get the ball rolling, it doesn’t take as much effort anymore to keep the ball rolling.  If you create momentum right the first time, you never have to go back to it.  What most people do is they do just enough work to make it an inconvenience, get a little momentum going and then back off the gas.

What happens is, they keep having to do the hard work over and over again to get the ball rolling and eventually they quit.  Not a way to build your internet business.

Don’t Ever Quit

Winners never quit.  It’s just not an option.  People quit because they are lazy and comfortable.  In order to create a new life and new results in your life and business, you have to do what I call, “move out the old furniture.”  Let me explain.

Remember back in college, you had all kinds of mix and match furniture, some maybe made out of milk crates or wood and nails?  Well let’s just say that’s your mind.  You get used to living like that after a few years.  It’s just normal.  Then one day you decide it’s time for change. I tell you that in order for us to move in new furniture, we have to get rid of the old.

What most people do is they will store their old stuff in the basement.  You feel better because the old ratty furniture is gone, however. If you don’t replace it with new furniture, you’ll start to move the old stuff back in.  Piece by piece and before you know it, your right back where you started.

You’ll quit if you don’t reprogram yourself for success.

I have been thinking for a while about the difference between what I used to do in MLM and the way I conduct business today and I have come to the conclusion that, Yep… There is a huge difference  in both MLM and Internet Marketing.  This is only my opinion here and not necessarily fact so seek to understand before being understood.

Prior to marketing online, I spent 4-1/2 years networking by building lists, calling those people, showing the plan, attending hotel meetings, etc.  I was trying to build an organization through networking through other peoples networks.  While this sounds like a great concept, it was fricking brutal!

Yes some people are successful in doing this, but most spend years buying into the dream that eventually they will find a few people who will build the business.  You spend most of your time trying to keep up with replacing the reps that just quit.

Today, my life is so much different.  In the past 26 months, I have not put anyone in business that I have not built a relationship with online.  Yes, that is right. I have not talked with any friends, family or anyone within my local area about business in over two years and I have gotten well over ten times the results and a hundred times the income than all of the previous 4-1/2 years combined.

Network marketing is exactly what it sounds like. You are building your business with other peoples networks.

What I love about Internet marketing is that I don’t have to deal with going through names and numbers , doing list builders with people to tap into their networks and all the crazy crap I had to deal with using “OLD SCHOOL” MLM Tactics.  And yes, I am not a fan of building business that way anymore.

Why is this?

It all comes down to leverage, branding, positioning and automation.

Let’s talk about these four principles for a moment because I think they are highly relative and important.

Leverage

Leverage allows you to work smarter, not harder.  When it’s just you out there, walking the malls, stores, and your local home dept trying to make a connection with someone to hopefully get into their network of people, you don’t have too much leverage until you are able to duplicate on a mass scale what you are doing.

Now let’s take the internet.  I can put out 100 direct response ads on the internet and have people coming to me rather then me chasing them.  Way different right?  I am ultra-targeting my prospects and only the ones that resonate with my ad respond to it.  This is called leveraging your efforts.  Every ad that I have out there is like having my own army of people doing the heavy lifting, sifting and sorting for me.  It’s awesome. This also allows you to brand youself.

Branding

When you think of brands you probably think of Nike, Reebok, NFL or the NBA right?  Well believe it or not when you venture into the online marketing world, you are a brand.

You see in MLM, you still have a brand, but I can’t see it getting very big because your reach is so small.  You can only impact so many people with your message with out the use of mass technology.

When I first got started marketing online, I didn’t have a lot of money to do direct response advertising so I wrote a lot of articles, did a ton of videos (over 500), did hundreds of blog posts, etc.  While this created some traffic, leads and sales, what I later realized is that I was creating my brand.

Today I have tens of thousands of pages on the internet with my content which is seen by millions of people across the globe. Branding is important because when people come across your business page, they are going to want to know who you “really” are.  They will start searching for you in Google and the question is…… What do they find? You had better build your brand or someone else will.  Along with branding, positioning is also super important.

Positioning

Positioning has to do with the way people view you in the market.  Do they see you as an authority? Do they see you as a wannabe, spammer?  How you present yourself in the marketplace has everything to do with how successful you will become and whether you will be a leader or a follower.

Positioning has a lot to do with how you feel about yourself.  Do you feel as if you are worthy to be the leader you deserve to be?

Automation is something that you can’t have building an MLM offline.  Automation allows your business to work for you while you sleep, while your away on vacation or playing with the kids.

Today, Autoresponders, websites and online shopping carts and internet advertising create automation.  It allows the business owner to concentrate on the things that actually produce revenue.

So in closing, Internet marketers are not the same as network marketers or MLM’ers. It’s a totally different ballgame with new rules.

The Stone Age of The Internet

I remember when prodigy was the very first ISP back in the early 1980’s. I got my first computer when I was 9.  I’ll never forget the Vic 20. Then came the commodore 64 and I remember the early Apple’s and tape drives.

I have seen the evolution of the modern computer and our introduction to the internet.  I remember the Dot.com crash back in 1990. To be honest with you, up until about 1994, I only used the internet to chat on AOL.  It wasn’t until I got my first job out of college in 1996 that I really started using search engines and that was 14 years ago.

If I knew 25% of what I know now back then, I’d have purchased my very own Island in Fiji.

The Golden Age of The Internet

Internet Marketing is where the new rich are. Once you learn how to market online.  Once you have learned the new skill set of the 21^st century, the sky is the limit as to what you can accomplish.

Kids like Jonanthan Budd know how to make money at will and Guys like Mike Dillard, Aaron Rashkin and Daegan Smith are helping people across the globe learn these coveted skills to make millions online once mastered.

You see, it’s impressive that we have large corporations and such that make tens of millions a year.  They have all the hassles of employees, payroll, light bills, rent, inventory, etc.  Online, its much different.  It’s hosting ,email, web design, copywriting, some outsourcing, etc. Those who get really good at this make tens of millions as well.

The ability the market anything to anyone anywhere in the world is a powerful thing.  When you think about 1.5 billion people that are online across the globe, that is a huge fricking amount of people to choose from.

Solution Providing

You have all types, personalities, wants, needs and desires out there.  The goal is to find problems and provide the solutions.  Pretty simple right?

There is a learning curve associated with making money online and most people are not willing to dedicate the time necessary to see the fruits of their labor manifest into its original intent.  What I am trying to say is there are a lot of starters out there but not too many finishers.

So, with all of that said. How do you aquire these skills?

It’s pretty simple really.  Learn directly from people who are currently making the big money and use the exact same systems they use to create wealth.

It was the year 2008 and I had been in a traditional MLM company for 4-1/2 years, building it the old school way. Back in 2006 I had purchased Mike Dillards Magnetic Sponsoring and at the time it was way over my head.

I had no idea how to put the systems he was talking about into place, nor did I know anything about Internet Marketing, however, the information planted in MS was revelation knowledge to me.  I was so darn excited and relieved that I was not the only one that went through the issues that most network marketers deal with.

Timing is everything

I really believe that god hands you things as he sees that you are fit to handle them.  It’s all about his timing not mine.  Toward the end of 2008 I was frustrated.  I had built several small organizations in my MLM company at that time and each time I thought I had traction and was growing, my group fell apart like an old Hyundai.  4-1/2 years and nothing to show for it other than the awesome education I had received through dozens of weekend seminars, one on one coaching and weekly hotel meeting trainings.

I knew that there was a better way of building a network marketing business and I also knew that the Internet was the place to do it, however I could not put the pieces together that were necessary to make a move forward online.

Then, a series of circumstances came forth.  I re-read Magnetic Sponsoring, found some very successful Internet Marketers and connected with them and started the process of branding and positioning myself online.

My Blog

The first step in having an online presence is having a blog or a “hub”.  Somewhere where I can write about my thoughts, offer some training of all the things I learned or am learning and a place in which people can come to see what I am all about.

I started out with a Blogger Blog and actually had several.  I got comfortable with blogging and wanted to take it to the next level so I hired someone to build me a professional WordPress blog with all of the bells and whistles.

Since it’s creation it has changed and morphed into what it is today.  I am going to change the theme and look again in just a few weeks.  Why?  Because I am changing.

My blog is an extension of me.  It’s a place in which I can be real with people, offer advise, exchange information and learn more about my audience.  It is the first step in really positioning yourself for success online so don’t skimp out on it. I have spent thousands of dollars on my blog, building backlinks, graphics, etc..  Do you have to do the same?  All depends on how much knowledge you have about building blogs.

Continuing Education

After leaving my traditional MLM company and hooking up with an online business model in the top tier direct sales industry, I realized I had a lot to learn, so I dug in and spent a lot of time learning the basics.  Video Marketing, Article Writing, Learning how to write a press release, Pay-Per-Click Advertising, Banner Advertising, etc.  I probably learned about 20 ways to market online through the program and community that I belong to.  What I realized is that the learning never stops.  It’s ongoing and constantly changing because the Internet is constantly changing.

Making Things Happen

With all the hype on the Internet and false income claims people make, people have this notion that it’s easy to make money online.  It is, once you learn how to market, but a struggle all the way up to that point.  Nothing worth having is going to come easy.  There is no easy money on the Internet.  If your going to make it online, your going to invest money to make money, period.  Like everywhere else, there is no free ride.

Massive action and persistent and consistent effort is the only thing that is going to propel you to any substantial income online.  You have to be an action oriented and laser focused person to become a top internet marketer.  You have to be willing to invest in courses, systems and anything necessary to bridge the gap that exists between you and your goals.  Are you going to blow some money in the wrong places?  Yep. It is all part of the learning process.  Don’t beat yourself up over it, just keep it going until you get what you want out of it or until you meet your goals face to face.

In Conclusion

Just in the past year alone I have learned a ton and got the equivalent of an associates degree in Internet Marketing.  I am currently working on my bachelors (sort of speak) and then onto my masters.  Just like everything else, it has required many hours of study and financial resources to keep everything going.

Winners do whatever it takes to make their dreams and goals a reality.  Losers make excuses as to why things have not gone their way and play the blame game.

The four most dangerous words are, “I already know that!”

My step-father used to call me Mr. Know-it-all as a kid growing up.  I hated it, however it was well deserved.  I thought I knew everything.  Can you imagine? 11 years old and I thought I had everything figured out.  Boy was I wrong.  The best part about it, was that my step-dad was a doctor.  Yep, he practiced psychology.

Fast forward a bunch of years, now I am 37 and I know a little more than I did at age 11, however I realized that life is a constant education.  In relation to the amount of knowledge one can aquire throughout a lifetime, I know absolutely nothing in comparison.

I have learned that I never tell anyone, “I already know that”, or anything like that phrase.  Why? It only shows ignorance.  If you already knew everything, there would be nothing left to learn.

I am constantly reading books, buying courses, attending conferences, webinars, conference calls and associating with as many brilliant people as possible. Why do I do this?  Because I always want to be expanding my knowledge.  What do you have to offer other people?  Are you a giver or a taker or both?  These are questions only you can answer.

One of the lessons I have learned over the course of time is that in order to receive, you must first freely give.  It is a universal law.  Call is sowing and reaping, call it Yin and Yang, eb and tide, etc.  For every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction.  I have always been a giver, therefor I have always had. I did not realize this working in my life until later on in life when I looked back at all of the circumstances to turned out very positive in my life.  It was due to the giving.

OK. enough of that, let’s get back to business.

When I started marketing online a little over a year ago, I knew nothing.  I knew how to google something, send an email, log onto Myspace, Facebook, etc.  I had no clue what AWeber, Squeeze Pages, SEO, Monetization or anything else to do with Internet Marketing.

I had, however studied attraction marketing years prior.  The first online course I ever bought was Mike Dillards Magnetic Sponsoring. This course was the launching point to everything I have done online and was the incubator for me learning how to attract rather than repel people to and from me.  That course changed my life.

The fact is, I realized that if I was going to go where I had never been, I knew that I was going to have to do things I have never done.  That meant, if I wanted to make millions online, be free from my job and out of financial bondage, I was going to have to study the people that had went before me.  I invested thousand of dollars in my education.  Books, e-courses, videos, software, etc.  You name it, I aquired it.  Some of the stuff I could have done without, but I realized that it was all a part of the process.

Most people getting started with an online business or any business for that matter needs to totally humble themself.  They need to realize that they don’t know anything.  The good news is, information is accessible these days to learn just about anything.  Everyone wants the quickest way to rich’s and freedom. The truth is, there is no quick way, however there are shortcuts.

It takes hard work to become a success at anything and don’t let all of the Internet Hype fool ya. “I made $386,000 in 3 days and you can do it too!”  I bet you see that everywhere you look don’t you?  Is it possible? Yep.. Will it happen for you? Maybe.  See, that is just marketing and who ever wrote that ad is feeding on your brain and appealing to what may want.  What you dont hear about is the ten years that person spent online, struggling, spending money they didnt have, foreclosing on their home because they just sunk their last $10K into a botched Google Adwords campaign.  You dont hear about the struggle, but it’s there.

“I already know that” ~ has now disappeared from your vocabulary.  You are now a new person, learning new skills that are going to take you to new places. Don’t be a Mr. Know-it-all like I once was.  You can learn something about anything from anyone with a real dream.

I was in MLM a few years back, knew nothing about Internet Marketing and was taught to make a list of everyone I knew. From my doctor, college, high school friends, family and every acquaintance I ever had. Then I was to get with my upline and call them asking them if they were keeping their options open to a business opportunity. The ones that said yes, I invited them to a meeting to see the plan. Sound Familiar?? Sure there were other ways we tried to market, like on facebook, myspace, etc..

When I look back at that, I have to laugh. Those ways to recruit new people into your business are bogus and no longer work. Unless you learn to market your business online and get serious Internet marketing training, you will never have a large organization. Sure people still do it old school, but most are divorced and have no life because all they do is spin their wheels 7 days a week and most go broke.

Your company replicated website is not going to help you explode your business because it doesn’t brand you. What Separates your site from everyone elses, NOTHING!!!   What top producers know is that they have branded themselves as leaders, which in turn have gotten them a following.

Training comes in all sorts of packages.  Webinars, websites, software, books, seminars, etc…  I get my hands on as much info as possible, attend live events and most of all implement what I learn.  Internet Marketing is a full time gig.  Anyone who tells you it’s not is lying.  The cool thing is, you don’t have to work it full steam forever, but you do need to treat it like a business if its to pay you like one.  Treat it like a hobby and it will pay you like one of those too.

To become a top producer, your Internet Marketing Training needs to take place daily.  The great thing about it is you can do it at your own pace.
