When I first got started marketing online,(I.M.T.O.S) I had Internet Marketing Training Overload Syndrome.  I was buying courses left and right thinking that the next course I bought would have the so called “secret” to success within.  I ended up with more courses then I could bite off and chew from and thus, got upset.  This was however, one of the greatest lessons that I have learned in my almost 4 year Internet Marketing career.

What I find way too often in today’s market, especially the Internet Marketing/Network Marketing arena, is that there is so many new courses, tips, tricks and information flying at people these days, it’s real easy to get way off track.

By all means, invest in yourself.  You are the only asset you will ever own that will NEVER depreciate in value.  But don’t think that by gobbling down course after course that you are going to be in a better position to win.  Here is a better tactic.

To really complete a study course on a new subject, you have to take what you have learned and IMPLEMENT IT!

I talk to people who have been in the industry for several years and haven’t made but a few hundred dollars.  It’s like, what the?!

We get paid to do two things in this industry………

Marketing and talking to people.

That’s it!  Period.  Everything else is secondary.

I was talking with one of my new members this morning about what she did in her previous 2 years in this industry and  she told me she was trying to make money with her blog, I had to take a look at it.  Turns out, she had nothing to buy on her blog, or it wasn’t very apparent.  Needless to say, while she put her best foot forward to make a go at it, she was no closer to hitting her goals of financial freedom then when she started.

She was busy trying to learn everything about designing blogs and a whole lot of other technical stuff, that she failed to do what was necessary to bring about the change in her life that she was looking for.

I have to ask.

- Are you feeling like you have to know everything before you do something?

-  Are you spending hours and hours on webinars and going through courses and are left with no time left for the things that bring in money?

- Are you constantly chasing the latest and greatest new “secrets” , thinking to yourself “If I could just learn this one thing, I will make it?”

If this is you, STOP!  It’s time to get busy.

Finally, are you spending too much of your time talking to the WRONG PEOPLE?

I know.  All you want when you first get started is to get yourself a sale or “Get you one!”  People who do this, come from a place of NEED rather then a place of SERVICE  and rarely succeed.

Your job is not to sell, it’s to sift and sort.  If your spending more then 10 minutes with a prospect on the phone, it’s too much.  You need to quickly find out, by asking questions, if the person on the other end of the line is someone you would like on your team.

Remember, YOU HAVE THE GOLDEN GOOSE THAT LAYS GOLDEN EGGS, NOT THEM!  Stop trying to sell them on all the features and benefits of your product or service and start finding out how you can best serve them.

If you understood that last line I just wrote, you know more then 99% of people in this business. Internet Marketing is simply about finding out what people’s problems are and providing the solutions.  If you find that someone has a problem that you can’t solve, don’t shove your product or service at them if it doesn’t serve their best interest.

The best marketers have a bag full of solutions, not just one.  I could write a whole other blog post on just that.

In closing, Do more marketing, talk to more people and stop spending so much time with people that don’t deserve your time.

It was the year 2008 and I had been in a traditional MLM company for 4-1/2 years, building it the old school way. Back in 2006 I had purchased Mike Dillards Magnetic Sponsoring and at the time it was way over my head.

I had no idea how to put the systems he was talking about into place, nor did I know anything about Internet Marketing, however, the information planted in MS was revelation knowledge to me.  I was so darn excited and relieved that I was not the only one that went through the issues that most network marketers deal with.

Timing is everything

I really believe that god hands you things as he sees that you are fit to handle them.  It’s all about his timing not mine.  Toward the end of 2008 I was frustrated.  I had built several small organizations in my MLM company at that time and each time I thought I had traction and was growing, my group fell apart like an old Hyundai.  4-1/2 years and nothing to show for it other than the awesome education I had received through dozens of weekend seminars, one on one coaching and weekly hotel meeting trainings.

I knew that there was a better way of building a network marketing business and I also knew that the Internet was the place to do it, however I could not put the pieces together that were necessary to make a move forward online.

Then, a series of circumstances came forth.  I re-read Magnetic Sponsoring, found some very successful Internet Marketers and connected with them and started the process of branding and positioning myself online.

My Blog

The first step in having an online presence is having a blog or a “hub”.  Somewhere where I can write about my thoughts, offer some training of all the things I learned or am learning and a place in which people can come to see what I am all about.

I started out with a Blogger Blog and actually had several.  I got comfortable with blogging and wanted to take it to the next level so I hired someone to build me a professional WordPress blog with all of the bells and whistles.

Since it’s creation it has changed and morphed into what it is today.  I am going to change the theme and look again in just a few weeks.  Why?  Because I am changing.

My blog is an extension of me.  It’s a place in which I can be real with people, offer advise, exchange information and learn more about my audience.  It is the first step in really positioning yourself for success online so don’t skimp out on it. I have spent thousands of dollars on my blog, building backlinks, graphics, etc..  Do you have to do the same?  All depends on how much knowledge you have about building blogs.

Continuing Education

After leaving my traditional MLM company and hooking up with an online business model in the top tier direct sales industry, I realized I had a lot to learn, so I dug in and spent a lot of time learning the basics.  Video Marketing, Article Writing, Learning how to write a press release, Pay-Per-Click Advertising, Banner Advertising, etc.  I probably learned about 20 ways to market online through the program and community that I belong to.  What I realized is that the learning never stops.  It’s ongoing and constantly changing because the Internet is constantly changing.

Making Things Happen

With all the hype on the Internet and false income claims people make, people have this notion that it’s easy to make money online.  It is, once you learn how to market, but a struggle all the way up to that point.  Nothing worth having is going to come easy.  There is no easy money on the Internet.  If your going to make it online, your going to invest money to make money, period.  Like everywhere else, there is no free ride.

Massive action and persistent and consistent effort is the only thing that is going to propel you to any substantial income online.  You have to be an action oriented and laser focused person to become a top internet marketer.  You have to be willing to invest in courses, systems and anything necessary to bridge the gap that exists between you and your goals.  Are you going to blow some money in the wrong places?  Yep. It is all part of the learning process.  Don’t beat yourself up over it, just keep it going until you get what you want out of it or until you meet your goals face to face.

In Conclusion

Just in the past year alone I have learned a ton and got the equivalent of an associates degree in Internet Marketing.  I am currently working on my bachelors (sort of speak) and then onto my masters.  Just like everything else, it has required many hours of study and financial resources to keep everything going.

Winners do whatever it takes to make their dreams and goals a reality.  Losers make excuses as to why things have not gone their way and play the blame game.

In the Beginning

When people first get started they want to get everything done like tomorrow. They want to learn how to drive traffic right off the bat and how to sponsor new reps into their business.
What they fail to realize is that there are steps one must take in order to be successful, especially in today’s internet age. You must learn the basics.

Branding and Positioning

The very first thing people need to do is start the process of branding themselves online. Getting signed up on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and your own personal blog are the first steps in your journey to success in your business. You want to own the first page in Google and the other search engines for your name. Signing up with these social networks is a start.

How you brand and position yourself will determine your online as well as offline success in your network marketing or traditional business.

Getting Educated

There is so much to learn when first getting started that it blows most people out. People are used to being told what to do and are waiting for instruction. Having a solid training and marketing program put together for your team is essential to ever have duplication take place in your organization.

There is a learning curve and everyone has to go through it. This is what blows most people out of the industry. They are all Gung Ho for the first month in their efforts, but when that month goes by and they don’t see any results, they quit or make an excuse as to why things are not working out for them, rather than pushing through the obstacles and becoming an over comer. Education is the key.

Choosing Your Marketing Strategy

There are many ways to market your self online. You can blog, write articles, make content rich videos, making training tutorials on things you’ve learned, Pay Per Click, Banner Advertising, and the list goes on. What you want to do is master one area of marketing that you’re comfortable with and that gets you results.

I have to be honest with you. I initially tried about twenty different types of online marketing when I first got started. I realized through the process that I couldn’t possibly become successful or gain any leverage by using all of them at once. There just was not enough time in the day to do all of them in any way that I could be productive and not all over the place.

I chose four. Blogging, Video Marketing, Article Writing and Pay Per Click Advertising. These are the ones that have produced the best results for me over the course of time. Will they work for you? Only you can answer that question.

Getting Busy

I see a lot of people getting paralysis by analysis when first getting started. Don’t feel like you have to read every e-book, go through every course, etc… before getting started with your marketing. You have to realize that there are only two things that make you money in this industry. The first is marketing and the second is talking to people. Marketing will attract those people to you, and then you have to learn how to “Connect” with people.

Stop checking results on an hourly basis. Just get to work and become production oriented, not results oriented. Take the emotion out of what you are doing and everything else will fall into place. Emotion is what blows people out of business. Every no they get puts them one step closer to quitting. You have to be a tough, productive, confident and decisive person in this business or you will never make it.

Make it happen

There are three types of people.  People who watch things happen, make things happen or those that say “what happened?” . How about making things happen. Decide that you’re going to do something great and don’t stop until you achieve your desired results.
Internet marketing is not for everyone but is for anyone who wants to take charge of their financial future and learn where the money is today. There has never been a recession on the internet.
