Worst Italian Food in Cumming Georgia

Review of Georgio’s Family Kitchen.

Before I go into my review of Georgios Italian Restaurant here in Cumming, Georgia, let me give you a little background here.

I have been a foodie all my life. From a young age, living in Maalaea Bay on Maui, I used to go down to our beach and harvest shrimp, eel and other delicious fish right out of my back yard.  At 10, I was cooking  my own food.

Years later, I received my Bachelors degree in Hotel/Restaurant management, have went to the CIA in Greystone, California and worked along side and was taught by Master Chefs, and have 20 years in the industry.

We moved to Cumming back in 2012 and being new, we wanted to try out all of the restaurants in the area.  Georgios Italian Restaurant was one of them.

Being that I lived in NY for 10 years, I have eaten at the best Italian restaurants in the country. I’ve also been cheffing up authentic Italian for my family for 17 years.

More on Georgios Family Kitchen

We tried Georgios 2 times in the first few years we lived here in Cumming and both times were a huge dissapointment.

Being that it had been over a decade and we hadn’t been back, my wife and I have heard many people over the years tell us that Georgios Italian restaurant is awesome, so we are thinking, “Let’s give it another try.”

This past Saturday, we are greeted by the hostess and get seated right away.  Shortly after our waiter arrives.  Nice guy. Takes our drink order and then food.  I figure, “How can they mess up a Veal Parm Hoagie”.  So I order that and it says it comes with greens and a greek dressing.  My wife orders the Chicken Picatta.

When the meal comes, I am hungry and dug right in.  The veal was overcooked and was a pre-fab patty that tasted like it came out of a fryer that hadn’t had its oil changed in a week.

My wife says the sauce on her Chicken Picatta tastes like it has gravy on it and the rice… Let’s just say it looked burnt or something. It was dark in color, perhaps they used chicken stock to cook it.  I reach over and have a taste of the Picatta and sure enough, it tasted like it was coated with Turkey gravy that should be served on a thanksgiving bird.

Dissapointed, when the waiter came over and asked how everything was, I told him that the service was impeccable, however, the food sucked and I told him about the above mentioned details.

Shortly after, one of the Owners comes over, Constantine.  I tell him about my culinary background and about the above mentioned and that this was our 3rd time at the restaurant.

He apologizes and says to me, “Well maybe this place isn’t for you, you’ve been here 3 times and it’s not worked out.” He then goes on to say, “Listen, we have been here 26 years and have used all the same recipes all along.”   He said he would comp the meals.  I told him, I wanted to pay for them.  He took them off anyway and I took good care of the server from a gratuity standpoint.

This guy basically told me I probably shouldn’t come back.  This place has been serving up shitty Italian food for 26 years.  People around here must not know Italian food.

To top it off, my wife orders Bruscetta to go.  Tasted like Pico De Gallo. No flavor and very bland. I give the service at Georgios Italian a 10 and the food a 3.  Just saying.

Georgios Family Kitchen – Definately needs a facelift.
