You Inc. – Building Your Brand, Building Your Future.

I am just going to let it all out here and share with you what I have discovered over the years about You Inc.

After spending about 10 years in the corporate world, I realized that I was not the asset I thought I was to the company that I worked for.  I was infact a liability.

Once I understood that expenses were liabilities, and that because someone else was signing my paycheck that my livelyhood was dependant upon some pretty unstable ground.

When companys look to lower their expenses and increase their cashflow, they cut expenses and being that payroll usually accounts for the majority of a companies expense (liability), thats were they cut.

When I think back to how stupid I was and people can sell out to a system like that, it almost makes me want to puke.  What is sad is that people become attatched to their Job Title.  It becomes who they are.

Think about this for a moment.  A normal part of a conversation is, “So What do you do?”  Rather than sharing what you like to do, you immediately tell people what you do for a living.  Pretty sad for most.  Do you see how we identify ourselves with our trade?

Wouldnt it be a little different if we answered with, “Well, I like to Surf, Ski and Skydive and love to go to the movies at 1:30 on a weekday because its always a private showing”.

Anyways, When your working for a company other than your own, you have their name on your business cards.  You may think you have some fancy title like VP of this or VP of that.  You know what VP stands for? Very Poor..You may look good and smell good but the fact is your never the hot shot, your company is.  They pay you a salary or wage to brand them.

I used to do it.  It was a great learning experience but once I understood the game I was in, I got out.  I wanted to be a free agent in the game of “You Inc”. I wanted to brand me.

That’s when I started to learn more about social media and how to brand me and become the expert in my field of endeavor.  I wanted to position myself in a market where people connected with me, were attracted to me and wanted to do business with me.

It’s a process and building “You Inc” takes time.  It takes consistant and persistant effort, using state of the art tools and keeping on top of your audience.

Start giving yourself away.  There are people out there who want to know what you know and will only connect with you.  Help those people get what they want and you will have everything you want.
