Prior to me being a family man, I have to be quite honest with you, I lived for myself. I worked just so I could party, have the things in life I wanted and have a good time.  It was all about the good time.  From the time I was about 14 years old, I have had the freedom to pretty much do anything I wanted in life.

I had loving parents.  Grew up right on the ocean in Maui Hawaii.  There were little things to fear about being a young man and being given a lot of freedom to roam the island as I pleased.

At about 15 I got my drivers license, first car, first girlfriend and my first job.  I had the life that most young men dream about.  No responsibility other than making sure I made it to school, showed up for work and woke up the next day to do it all over again.

Here are some ways in which you can take back control of your finances and start living a more financially stable life.

Stop Spending

Take an inventory of your spending habits.  If you are living from paycheck to paycheck, something is wrong and you are most likely living WAY above your means.  Stop the bleeding by thinking about whether what your buying is a need or a want.  Get rid of the wants and only buy what you need.

Remember back when you were in grade school and summertime came?  Remember how free you felt that you had 2 or 3 months to do pretty much anything you wanted with your time? Felt pretty good right?

Fast forward to today and look how much that has changed?  Responsibilities kicked in, maybe a few kids, marriage and a career.  Times have changed, haven’t they?
