What Do Reality TV and Marketing Have In Common?
Over the past decade, Reality TV has ABSOLUTELY blown up. I mean seriously. People fricking love it.
Why?
It’s entertaining, that’s why.
I think a lot of marketers out there have no clue what the frick they are doing. People don’t care about buying your products or services until you have filled an empty void within them and that is the honest truth.
Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you have the latest and greatest and that everyone just has to have what you have to offer.
Want to sell alot of something?
Start entertaining people.
People watch reality TV because they are entertained.
People buy infomercial products because through the process of watching the infomercial, they are truly entertained by the demonstrations.
People don’t buy based on logic. People ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS buy based on emotion. When their emotion towards something is strong enough, it’s only then that they are moved to buy your stuff or any stuff for that matter.
I have to be honest with you. It took me a long, long time to understand this stuff.
I was the guy who thought that if I just put my product or service in front of enough people, they would buy. Sure they did. Stay with me, as I am about to give you the game changer that put my sales, selling and life into hyperdrive.
What I realized is that people always buy from people they know, like and trust. Especially when your selling big ticket items running in the thousands of dollars, you have to establish trust.
Well, people watch the same Reality shows because they know what they are going to get when they press play on their DVR’s and watch their favorite show. Those shows have earned their trust by delivering the goods they are looking for week in and week out.
Trust me, if those shows were selling something other than entertainment through the cable networks, people would be buying like crazy. I mean , how crazy do you get when you miss an episode of your favorite show? You forgot to record it. Bummer right? Would you pay something if you could buy it to watch it?
I bet your left shoelace you would.
Same thing goes in marketing. It’s called scarcity. People don’t want to buy from desperate people who are shoving things down their throat. They buy from people who have offered some really outrageous value to them on the front end.
As a marketer, I usually always offer only a limited number of my product a month. It’s not come one come all anymore. I can offer more value to my customers if I limit the amount of people I take in on a monthly basis and over deliver with the value I offer them.
My goal is to knock their stinking socks off with value and deliver, deliver and deliver some more.
Are you getting this? I learned this stuff from some of the most ridiculous marketers on the planet. Guys that can wake up in the morning, fire off an email and make $100K in the next 24 hours and do it at will.

Your product or service alone is not going to cut it. Always be willing to give more value than you are looking to take in form of payment. Do this and you will create raving fans, long term friendships, Valued relationships and rockstar like status in your respective niche.
