Creating raving fans is what most Bloggers and authors dream of…. How About I share with you 10 HOT tips on how to develop a relationship with your audience.
There are ten steps that I think will benefit you greatly if you apply them to your social media regimen. These weren’t just some random thoughts that I am throwing at you. These have been time tested and work really well. Read it, understand it and then implement it and see for yourself.
Be Real With People
Don’t you think that the biggest turn off in the world is a faker or liar? I do. I hate liars, thieves and braggarts. Being very transparent with your readers lets your audience put their guard down. If they smell fishiness, they will dive deeper into their research on you and find out the real deal. There are enough fakes and duplicates out there, just be you, someone out there will relate to you.
There is so much content on the internet that is re-hashed and flat out ripped off from others. People are looking for original content, stuff that they will read and have ah ha moments. Sure it’s hard to come up with totally unique content, however, this is the difference between you being someone who is respected or just another copycat out there looking for attention.
Dictionary.com’s definition of a Revelation is:
~something revealed or disclosed, esp. a striking disclosure, as of something not before realized.
I think you get the picture.
Talk About Things That Matter
I see so many people just throwing up content via blogging, videos, articles and they are just babbling. Do you want to know that the biggest secret is? It’s finding out what your audience wants to hear and give it to them. Talk about things that matter to them. People do things based on emotions. To get emotional about something, something has got to trigger that reaction. For me its usually something that I hear or read that resonates with my soul. I know it hits a nerve because I get tingly and sometimes tear up a bit.
That’s how I know it’s truth as that is the holy spirit at work convicting me of something that matters and is true to my being. Sorry to get a little deep there, just trying to express in words the best I can.
Give Your Audience Value
I call this the 90-10 rule. Meaning you want to give 90% and take 10%. People come to you because they like you and eventually will trust you, but only if you don’t shove things down their throat. People hate being sold on things, they like selling themselves on what they want. Always give your audience information that they can immediately put to use. Once they feel that you are someone of value to them, they will trust you enough to invest in themselves via products you recommend, but not before they trust you.
Connect With Your Audience
When ever anyone leaves a direct message to me on my blog, Face Book, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn or any other social network, I make sure to respond to them ASAP. If someone takes the time to reach out to you, make sure you respond and respond quick. Why? Because it’s how to learn more about what people are looking for and how you can help solve their problems or make new connnections that can take you to the next level.
You never know who your going to connect with next so be open minded with everyone and connect!
Ask For Feedback
When I write something, I want my audience to react. Whether it’s positive or negative, I want to know which cords I hit so feedback is a really good way of finding out what your readers want or don’t want. You can also survey your audience using a service like Survey Monkey.
Truley Care About People
A lot of people get online with a product or service to market and try to do just that. Most are flat out spammers. If all you care about is your bank account and what others can do for you, your in the wrong place. To have long term success in life, you have to learn to care about folks.Take your eyes off of what you want and help people get what they want. I am sure you have heard this many times over.
“People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. – Theodore Roosevelt
Talk To Your Audience In The First Person
I see a lot of people when blogging or writing talk to everyone. They don’t hone in on the person on the other side. I like to talk to you just like I am doing now. I don’t want to talk to the guy over there. Do you see him? He is the guy across the street selling newspapers at a stand. He is not in my target audience and I know that. Because your reading this, you are..At least I think you are..
Give Your Best Stuff Away For Free
I have nothing to hide and no secret too great that I can’t share it with my people. Granted I save some closely guarded stuff just for my team as they have qualified for it, but for the most part I share all of my tactics with whoever wants them. I suggest you learn to do the same. Sure I could put together an e-book with the info and sell it for $50 a pop. I would rather give it away and do personal teaching on the subjects and develop the relationship. Ebooks don’t develop a relationship with people at least not long term.
Wash, Rinse and Repeat
Follow my top ten tips here and see what happens. You may not see any results after a week or even a month, but you will develop a strong relationship with people by using these techniques. Remember, it’s not about you, it’s about them.
