I can also remember when I first got started learning how to put together my business online how I got distracted doing things that produced nothing.
There are many kinds of distractions that can “Take You Out”. Today I am going to cover three that I conscider to be dangerous to your business if you don’t manage your time.
Social Media, Email and working on the wrong things can kill your business. As you become a more seasoned business owner, hopefully you learn from your mistakes.
Social Media Can Waste Your Time.
Previously it was Myspace, then came Facebook, Twitter, Digg and now thousands of social networking sites have bombarded us with the opportunity to connect with people on a whole other level.
Social media is not going anywhere anytime soon and is a very powerful media platform that can be used to connect with people on many different levels. 2.6 billion minutes are spent each day by people on Facebook (worldwide). I am sure that alot of that time is just personal enjoyment.
When building a successful online business, there are going to be times that you can spend on social networking sites for fun and then there is time in which you are going to need to be doing what I call RPA which stands for revenue producing activity. Don’t get caught up into thinking that you are being productive because you are talking with your old college buddies about how great your business is going. Your kidding only yourself.
Checking Your Email Every Ten Minutes?
When I first got started marketing online and generated my first lead, it was a big adrenaline rush and I was more than excited. I knew that If I could generate 1 I could generate 100. I got into the habit of checking my email like every 5-10 minutes to see if any leads came through. I did this for months.
I then realized that over the course of the day, I would waste at least an hour going in and out of email, reading, deleting, marking spam emails, etc.A Total waste of time. Now I only check my email three times a day. First thing in the morning, in the middle of the day and at the end of the day. The time that I saved is now put to creating new ads in my marketing and pumping out fresh content.
Getting Caught Up In Projects That Produce Nothing.
I used to find myself doing things that I had no business doing myself and thus wasting precious time doing things that did not produce results. One of those things was trying to design my own blog. I spent countless hours trying to figure out how to have my blog hosted, how to get the design right, etc.
Finally, I messed things up so bad, I decided I was just going to outsource it. It was an awesome decision. It was at that point that I realized that I should only be doing the things that I enjoyed doing that produced results. Everything else I could outsource.
Don’t get caught up in doing a whole bunch of things that you think are moving you forward in business, but are actually holding you back. There are only 2 things in Internet marketing that you get paid for.
2. Talking to people.
