The Home Based Business Rules Of Engagement.

I am constantly amazed at the amount of people coming into the home based business industry at this point in time.  I am also amazed at how little people know about this industry before jumping into it.

I think people are allured initially by the potential to make a lot of money.  Well, why is it then that only about 3% of the people in this industry worldwide, are making a full time living from it?  Well…….

There are lots of reasons and perhaps I can shed some light on them.

Home Based Business Rule of Engagement #1 – Know Exactly What You Want

This is a question you need to get to the bottom of with your prospects or if you are the one thinking about getting into the home based business industry, you need to be very clear about it.  Sure you want to make more money, but what you have to ask yourself is what are you going to do with it?

Know what the end result goal is.  Without it, I guarantee you will quit when the going gets tough and believe me it will.  Is it a new home, new car, second home, money for your childrens college education?  Get crystal clear about what you want.

Home Based Business Rule of Engagement #2 – Know Why You Want It

You cant just come into this business not knowing why you are building it in the first place.  My mentor and coach Aaron Rashkin says, “If your why doesn’t make you cry, if it doesn’t get you up earlier in the morning, make you stay up later than ever before and doesn’t wake you up in the middle of the night thinking about it, its not big enough”.

Think about that for a bit.  What is the lifestyle and money going to do for you that you will be willing to go through hell and high water to make it.  Few people succeed in the home based business because they have no mental game plan for themselves.

Home Based Business Rule of Engagement #3 – Know When You Want It

You have to be able to reverse engineer your goals.  What I mean by this is once you figure out what you want and why you want it, the next step is to put a time line on your goal.  Set a realistic goal for yourself that is quantifiable.  Keep your goals in front of you at all times.  Visualize them.

See yourself achieving them and pay close attention to the emotion that you feel while visualizing those goals.  This is what sets the law of attraction in play.  The stronger that emotion becomes, the sooner your goal will become a reality.

Home Based Business Rule of Engagement #4- Know What Your Willing to Give Up

You cannot and I emphasize CANNOT create a different lifestyle or income with the same way of thinking and doing things that you have always embraced.  It is going to take a different you.  It’s going to take change and you giving up some things on the front end to get EXACTLY what you want on the back end.

The people who succeed at the highest levels in the home based business industry are doers, movers and shakers and out of the box thinkers.  They are not couch potatoes, softball players and are not a part of the local bowling league.

To learn the skills necessary to succeed in business and to be able to have the time for personal development, marketing and family time, your going to have to give up some old habits that have kept you where you are in life.

It’s the very things that you give up that you will get back when you get the job done and build a successful home based business.

Home Based Business Rule of Engagement #5- Make Sure You Have A Proven System

One of the biggest mistakes people make when getting involved in a home based business is thinking that their way of doing things will bring the best results.  If that were the case, we would all be millionaires.

No matter what business your in, you need to have a system that has stood the test of time and has created the results you are after.  This is a business of duplication and everything that you do to create results has to be learn-able, teachable and duplicatable for maximum results.

Smart entrepreneurs don’t recreate the wheel, they leverage the wheel that has been built for them and adjust it accordingly.  Systems are what produce the best results, not pure talent.

Home Based Business Rule of Engagement #6 – Personal Development

There was a study recently done that stated “81% of people in the world have not picked up a book since they left school.”  Think about that for a second.  Where are people getting their information from if they are not reading?  The news? Television? Neighbors or Family?

Personal development and continuing education is essential to any business persons success.  You need to be reading a minimum of 30 minutes each day.  Don’t just read anything. You want to be reading personal development books, books on mindset and strategy.  Books that will take you farther than you wanted to go.  Read books that are going to stretch your way of thinking.

If you have never made more than $5K a month and want to make $100K a month, you cant do it thinking the way you think right now.  Something has got to budge.  Leaders are readers and those who put the most good stuff in, have the most good stuff coming out.

While I could go on with several more rules of engagement, I think you get the picture here.  The home based business industry is not for everyone.  It’s for those people that are serious about making big changes, thinking big and doing big things with their life.
